Section 508 People with Disabilities

My accessibility goal is to support the Section 508 ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and make this web site usable for people with visual, auditory, motor, and other disabilities. Accessibility features that I've implemented in this web site are pursuant to the W3C and include the following.

Standards Compliance

Standards compliance is an integral part of delivering functional and accessible web sites. By leveraging industry recognized web standards, the content of this web site is made available to a wider range of people and technologies. The pages on this site adhere to the following standards:

  • Every effort has been made to make assure pages on this site comply to at least the W3C WCAG Priority 1 Guidelines.
  • Pages on this site validate as XHTML and CSS2.
  • Pages on this site use structured semantic markup. <h1> <li> and other comparable tags are used for the page headings, subheadings and standard HTML intent.

Design

  • Pages have implemented object attributes for form objects, frames, media and images.
  • Pages enable screen reader support and have been tested with JAWS.
  • The site uses CSS for visual layout. For optimal viewing, it is recommended that you use a browser with CSS2 support, such as Internet Explorer 6 or better, or Mozilla Firefox.
  • The site uses relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. The recommended "text size" for viewing this site in a visual browser is medium or 100%.
  • If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets, the content of each page will still be readable.
  • The recommended resolution for viewing this site in visual browsers is 1024 x 768 32 bit color. The site has been built adopting web standard practices and guidelines therefore it's best viewed in a modern standards compliance browser.

Validation

I have leveraged XHTML 1.0 and CSS to conform to the design standards specified as laid out by the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. In an effort to bring the best possible service and user experience to the most users, not only does the site meet Section 508 Compliance, but many areas are designed to exceed these standards and are fully compatible with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Triple-A guidelines.
