My Florida Congressman Ron Klein
Ronald "Ron" Klein is my congressman for Florida's 22nd congressional district.
My Ron Klein Performance Scoring:
Character: To be tested in the House of Representatives
Competency: Competent
Contribution. In progress
Ron Klein Accomplishments
- Congressman Klein is relatively new to his position. While a freshman to the 110th Congress, Klein was assigned membership to the Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees. The Financial Services Committee affords Klein a significant opportunity to respond to the mortgage meltdown crisis. Similarly, as the Vice Chairman of the Middle East subcommittee and a representative on the Western Hemisphere subcommittee Klein is in position to show leadership and influence foreign policy in Iraq and Iran as well as the looming and threatening instability from Hugo Chavez and Venezuela.
- I regard the first 100 hours pledge as a partisan spin which has largely failed the campaign rhetoric and done little to advance the people's interests. I hope these needless campaign spins give way to true progress moving forward.
- I am extremely hopeful that Klein's motivation and participation toward national energy independence and achieving self sufficiency with renewable energy sources achieves material progress beyond just the recently passed energy bill. I will be following this effort and progress closely.
- I'm encouraged by his comments of bi-partisanship as I firmly believe we need political leaders that can unite what has become a divided citizenry. I hope there is truth and demonstratable backing in the following statement by Mr. Klein:
- “I truly believe that there are solutions to every problem that faces us today. Often times, it is simply a matter of getting well-intentioned people to back out of the corners of partisanship and move toward common ground. Our constituents are relying on us for answers and we cannot afford to let them down.”
- Early votes show Klein supporting fiscal responsibility. At the start of his term, Klein and the Congress restored the 1990's pay-as-you-go budgeting process which requires Congress to work within a balanced budget and stems the tide of run away deficits.
- At more of a local level, I'm encouraged to see Klein continue his push for homeowners insurance reform as well as push for amending the Longshoreman Act which is currently crippling the growth of our local marine industry and having an impact on our local economy.
- At this point, the early indicators for progress by Klein are seemingly positive. However, to date, while vocally supporting national agenda items, he has been little more than a supporting vote on key acts initiated by others and supported by the majority. Nonetheless, with roles on the Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, Klein has positioned himself into a role where he can choose to show leadership, influence and results of the highest magnitude for the citizens of this district and America at large. Time will tell and I will continually update my perceived progress of Representative Klein's actions and/or inactions.
Ron Klein Public Service History
Klein began his career as a public servant in 1992 after winning election to the Florida House of Representatives. Klein was then elected to the State Senate District 30 in 1996 where he ultimately became the Minority Whip and Senate Democratic Leader.
Klein graduated with a BA in political science from Ohio State University in 1979 and then received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1982. He and his wife relocated to Boca Raton in 1985.
